Enhancement Shaman Guide

This is a starter guide for all our Enchancies out there! This has been updated for 4.1.

Specs

10/31/0

*Note that the tier two Elemental talents Reverberation and Elemental Precision are interchangeable, both are good and are good use to Enchancement Shamans. If you are usually resposible for interrupts in your group, put the points into reverberation.

Glyphs

Prime

You definitely want Glyph of Lava Lash and then two of the other three.
  1. Glyph of Lava Lash
  2. Glyph of Storm Strike
  3. Glyph of Windfury Weapon
  4. Glyph of Feral Spirit

Imbues

Main Hand: Windfury Weapon
Off Hand: Flametongue Weapon

Consumables

Food: Skewered Eel
Flask: Flask of the Winds
Potion: Potion of the Tol'vir

Stats

These are ordered by priority.
  1. Hit Rating - 17% (1742 Hit) - (1639 if Draenei)
    1. Caps hit for all spell attacks
    2. We get 6% hit from Dual Wield Specialization
  2. Expertise for the 6.5% Dodge Reduction (26 rating) = 541 Rating or 451 if you're a Dwarf wielding maces or Orc wielding axes or fist weapons.
    1. Ensures your attacks are not dodged or parried when standing behind a boss
  3. Agility is the new primary stat for Enhancement. It provides 2 AP and .00307805% crit per point of agility. Also thanks to Mental Quickness, it provides a whole lot of spell power. Gem for it as much as possible.
  4. Mastery great for Enhancement. After Hit/Expertise caps, mastery is THE stat to reforge to.
  5. Crit edges out haste in value, but not by much. Still important though.
  6. Haste is no longer amazing for Enhancement. Long gone are the days of sub 1.0 speed 2.6 weapons. Since the 30% haste buff to DK/Pal/Druid/Shamans was reverted with 4.0, it lost a lot of it's luster. Also, other classes have a much more exciting interaction with haste (increased energy regen, etc). Since there's nothing like that in Enhancement, haste remains pretty "meh."
  7. Intellect will provide you with some spell power and spell crit. Do not gear for Int.
  8. Strength gives Enhancement 1 AP per point. Not worth gearing for.

Gems

Socket bonuses in Cataclysm are huge compared to those in WotLK. As such, you will want to match more socket bonuses than before. Since mastery is very good for Enhancement, matching a yellow socket with an orange gem (or even yellow) is almost always a good idea. For bonuses that are 20+ Agility or Mastery, match blue sockets (match them regardless if under hit cap). Other than that, go straight Agility.
Meta - Agile Shadowspirit Diamond
Red - Delicate Inferno Ruby
Yellow - Adept Ember Topaz
Blue - Glinting Demonseye or Rigid Ocean Sapphire

Mods

  1. TotemTimers
    1. Tracks more than just totems including shields (yes, earth too)
  2. SexyCooldown
    1. You can create more than one bar to track different things. (i.e. One bar to track your self buffs and one to track you target's debuffs)
  3. Any mod that will allow you to track your Maelstrom stack count
    1. There are several mods out there that do this indirectly or through the addition of modules
      1. IceHUD

        1. Can be used to track shields, or any other buff/debuff

Macros

Cast a spell (i.e. Wind Shear or Purge) on an enemy by focus or target.
#showtooltip <Spell>

#showtooltip Wind Shear

/cast [@focus,harm,nodead][@target,harm,nodead][@focustarget,harm,nodead][@targettarget,harm,nodead] Wind Shear

Shock Cycle (casts Flame Shock or Earth Shock dependent on which debuff is active on target. Priority given to Flame Shock)
#showtooltip
/castsequence reset=combat/target/12 Flame Shock, Earth Shock
/startattack [harm]

Tools (External from WoW - not a mod)

The two most commonly used tools for Enhancements are Rawr and EnhSim. Rawr is a program for comparing and exploring gear.1 Generally this is all that you'll really need to use. If you're a bit more hardcore and want to see the differences gear makes on a more accurate level then you will most likely be using EnhSim.EnhSim allows players of World of Warcraft Enhancement Shaman to simulate their gear setup and work out what combination of gear gives the best damage output.1
