Icecrown Citadel/Gunship Battle

Icecrown Gunship Battle

Setup

This fight does not require a full set of healers, and can easily be healed with 2/5 healers. The raid should be divided into 3 groups. One group, the Below Zero group, consists of a strong mitigation tank, 1/2 tank healers, and 2/5 of your strongest DPS. 2/4 other DPS can man the guns, and the rest, the portal group, work on the adds that spawn on your ship.

Strategy

To start, pick up a rocket pack from the goblin, equip in your shirt slot, and place it on your action bar. This allows you to jump long distances and do a moderate amount of AoE damage wherever you land.

When the fight begins, the Below Zero group and the portal group have little to do other than to avoid the yellow runes on the ground indicating where a rocket is going to land from the enemy ship. The gunners aim for the rocket launcher goblins at the far end of the horde ship. Note you generally cannot hit the one directly in front of you, you must aim for the one across from you. So if you're in the left gun, you must shoot the right goblin. This not only hurts the launchers, but deals siege damage to the ship, essential for this fight to succeed.

To use the guns, simply hit the 1 key repeatedly. However, you must watch your vehicle's energy. If you hit 100%, you will overheat and must wait for your gun's energy to hit 0% in order to use it again. To help, when your energy gets high you can hit the 2 key to eliminate all of your energy and send a fireball to the enemy ship that will hit for significantly increased damage.

Soon, enemies will start appearing from portals above the center of your ship. These must be tanked and brought down by the portal group. The Below Zero group can help with these while they are still on the ship.

Eventually, the opposing captain will call for a mage to freeze the guns. Once he spawns, the Below Zero group must use their rocket pack to launch themselves to the other side. The tank must tank the opposing captain away from the other people that came over, and the healers must focus their heals on that tank. The DPS should all burn down the mage, who will not attack back. Once this is done everyone returns to their own ship and the guns can begin firing again.

During the below zero, the people that are in the guns should help out with the portal groups, but be ready to get back in their guns right before the mage is killed.

The gunners should finish off the launchers and then start working on the axe throwers in the front of the opposing ship. These are significantly easier to hit, and go down much faster. However, there are more axe throwers than rocket launchers. It may take more than 2 rounds of Below Zero to get through all of these mobs.

A few notes about the enemy mobs. All of them gain rank at certain points in the fight. This is the reason you want to kill the enemies on the opposing ship, because their attacks become stronger over time, reducing the amount of time you have to take down the enemy ship. This ranking up also affects the mobs that the portal groups deal with, so be careful to allow the tank some time to get aggro. If you pull aggro after a rank up, you may not live.

The opposing captain also stacks a buff while there are enemies on his ship, which causes him to hit the tank harder and harder. For this reason, the Below Zero group cannot stay on the enemy ship for any longer than it takes to kill the mage.
